Folk Dance On Fridays
Fridays, 1 – 2:30 PM throughout the year at Center on the Hill $50 CHCE Members, non-Members $60 when paid in advance for any 10 weeks. Walk-ins: $7. New students may join the group at any time, and are asked to first register with the CHCE (215-248-0180) An opportunity to learn dances from Israel, the British Isles, France, the Balkans and beyond. No partner needed, as most dances are done in lines and circles. A class for beginning and intermediate dancers, where more experienced dancers are always welcome.
Instructor: Bill Wadlinger founded Beaver Folk Dancing with his wife Carol. He plays several stringed instruments and is a member of International Folk Sounds and Three’s a Village, providing dance instruction with live music. More recently Bill began The Three Tellers (a script-in-hand drama group) and The Non-electric Eclectics (a trio of world folk musicians).

For students who have completed Tai Chi Level I and wish to continue and deepen their practice. Qi Gong and Meditation will be included in this course. Instructor: Susan Heinemann is a long-time student of Maggie Newman and has taught the three disciplines of T’ai Chi, Meditation and Qi Gong in the Philadelphia area for over 20 years.
Yoga with Attitude
Fridays, 9:30 – 11:00 year-round at Center on the Hill

This is basic yoga with breath warm-ups, asana & meditation. Students of all ages and levels of experience welcome. The class provides a method allowing us to adopt an “attitude” when confronted and to respond to the adventures in our lives. Participants practice alternative viewpoints “while standing in truth & light.” All new students register with the CHCE office (215-248-0180). Instructor: Grace Perkins (see below).
Yoga with a Chair
Fridays, 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM year-round at Center on the Hill First class $10. $45 per month. Walk-ins $14 per class. All new students register with the CHCE office (215-248-0180).
Everybody can enjoy the benefits of yoga. It’s not necessary to get on the floor to explore this gentle and effective exercise system that creates strength, flexibility and balance. Everyone is welcome in our class, which is classically structured: breathing techniques, asana (postures for strength and stretching) and meditation based in the Integral Tradition. Added benefits include improving balance and rotation. Standing is optional. Laughter and fun are encouraged. Instructor: Grace Perkins has been teaching Yoga in and around Philadelphia for 25 years. She developed a unique program integrating seasons, posture, metaphors, poetry and stories to enhance the basic Integral Yoga approach. When teaching at a senior center some 24 years ago, Grace was asked to form a program for people recovering from illness or who had physical limitations, and thus “armchair yoga” was born.
Thursdays, 4-5PM at the CHCE, $7 per session.

Join the new Chestnut Hill Center for Enrichment Zumba® Gold – Chair class, specially designed for beginners, older adults, and those with physical limitations. Christine Brewer, RN, MSN is a certified Zumba instructor, nurse, nursing instructor, and samba percussionist. She has a passion for providing wellness activities, especially dancing and music, for older adults.
Warm Weather Walkers
Every Tuesday morning, promplty a 9 o’clock. Meet at the CHCE for a walk through the residential and commercial areas of Chestnut Hill. On certain days we might stroll, other days…some power walking. Bring water, wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather (we don’t expect to walk in a steady rain) which may be cool in May, but is likely to heat up by summer;s end. Start time may be moved up to adjust for that. We will try to honor requests for destinations that do not involve a long drive.
