A course for absolute novices, those who have little or no exposure to the Spanish language. Learn how to make small talk, order a meal, get directions, and ask how much those cute little trinkets cost. The course will require your patience and active participation; and by the end of it you will be able to answer simple questions, construct questions of your own, and carry on a brief conversation.                                            Instructor: Andrew Sellers is retired after teaching both Spanish and French at Northeast High School for 30+ years.  He is now teaching for Mt. Airy Learning Tree, the O.L.L.I. program as well as CHCE.

Whether you are refreshing your high school/college French or have maintained fluency through travel, tutors and classes, you will be welcomed. Reading and Writing

Mystery-lovers’ Book Club 1st, Tuesdays, 10:30 AM – 12 Noon. At the CHCE. $2 donation to the CHCE requested

Do you like mysteries, detective stories, thrillers? Then this is the group for you. Since July, 14 people have signed on for this new activity (we can make room for more) … that must mean something!  In January the Mystery Lovers will meet on the second Tuesday, 1/10, and will discuss The Private Patient by P.D. James. The Group sets its own agenda, choosing the authors, books and how to get them.

Play Reading (“script in hand”)  Thursday mornings, 10: 00 – 11:15 AM year round. At the CHCE. $2 donation to CHCE requested.

For anyone entranced by live theater, or those who just like reading aloud. The group decides what plays to read and how to read them. No memorization required. $2 donation requested.

Short Story Discussion Group  Every Friday, 12:30 – 1:30 PM year round. At the CHCE. $2 donation to CHCE requested.

Like a book club, but reading shorter works and meeting more often. The group decides what anthologies and collections they will read (at home) and discuss together. Books are purchased at deep discounts online. $2 donation for the CHCE is requested.
